"This is my first time driving a Chinese car. It’s very comfortable, easy to handle, and, frankly, better than any car I’ve ever driven," said a Peruvian driver in a video that recently went viral online. The video was filmed outside the venue of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
During the APEC CEO Summit, a fleet of 20 BYD Yuan PLUS vehicles (marketed overseas as the BYD ATTO 3) appeared on the streets of Lima, Peru, as the official vehicles for the main conference venue, providing green and clean mobility solutions.
Partnering with Luz del Sur to Advance Green Mobility in Peru
The fleet of 20 BYD Yuan PLUS vehicles belongs to Luz del Sur, one of Peru’s largest electricity distribution companies. On November 8. BYD and Luz del Sur announced a strategic partnership, adding 46 new electric vehicles to the company’s daily operations. This collaboration has made Luz del Sur the operator of the largest pure-electric fleet in Peru.
At the delivery ceremony, Luz del Sur General Manager Mario González, BYD Peru Regional Finance Director Zhang Cheng, and Peruvian Minister of Transport and Communications Raúl Pérez Reyes attended the event. Both parties emphasized the importance of this partnership in transforming Peru’s transportation model.
Raúl Pérez Reyes previously stated that the Peruvian government is developing strategies to accelerate the adoption and promotion of new energy vehicles. The government plans to offer stronger policy support in areas like clean energy development and electric vehicle adoption while increasing investment in infrastructure to achieve the goal of nationwide green mobility.
This partnership marks an important step for Luz del Sur in advancing green mobility in Peru and a significant expansion for BYD in the South American market. By integrating technology and resources, the collaboration aims to promote a green and sustainable transformation of the transportation sector in Peru and across South America, providing users with more environmentally friendly and efficient travel solutions.
"Safe, intelligent, and a highly user-friendly large screen" is a common sentiment shared by Peruvian drivers about Chinese new energy vehicles. These vehicles are subtly transforming local consumer perceptions and driving habits.
