On November 15. at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, NIO signed a strategic partnership agreement with Green Car. The announcement marks NIO's official entry into the Azerbaijani market, where it will provide intelligent electric vehicles and services to local users.
According to the agreement, Green Car will serve as NIO's exclusive national distributor in Azerbaijan, directly offering services to local customers. Under NIO's comprehensive global standards, Green Car will manage operations related to products, services, and community engagement in Azerbaijan. The company will also invest in and oversee the construction of NIO's charging and battery-swapping stations, service centers, and NIO Houses in the region. Additionally, NIO will develop and authorize Green Car to use localized digital products, such as the official NIO Azerbaijan website and mobile applications, ensuring a consistent global user experience.
Rustam Ibrahimov, Chief Operating Officer of Green Car, stated, "The global automotive industry is undergoing an exciting transformation. Green Car shares NIO's vision for sustainability, and we look forward to working together to drive the electrification transformation in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus region."
NIO plans to commence product deliveries in Azerbaijan in the second quarter of 2025. providing the full suite of NIO services to users in the Caucasus region.
Since its inception, NIO has pursued a global R&D strategy, entering the European market in 2021 to kickstart its international expansion. As of November 15. 2024. six NIO models — the EL8 (marketed as ES8 in China), ET7. EL7 (marketed as ES7 in China), ET5. ET5 Touring, and EL6 (marketed as ES6 in China) — have been introduced in five European countries: Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark. In Europe, NIO has established 58 battery-swapping stations, integrated access to over 600.000 third-party charging piles, and built 8 NIO Houses, 10 NIO Spaces, and 65 NIO Service Centers.
In October 2024. NIO announced its entry into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with plans to launch its full ecosystem in the UAE in the fourth quarter of this year.
