The current BYD Song Pro DM-i model has been popular with users since its launch. On March 1st of this year, the Glory Edition was officially introduced, lowering the starting price to around 110.000 RMB, which further boosted its sales.
On September 23rd, BYD officially launched the new Song Pro DM-i, with prices ranging from 112.800 to 142.800 RMB. The new model offers four different configurations. As a new generation model, it features not only a refreshed design but also BYD's DM5.0 plug-in hybrid technology, equipped with a 1.5L hybrid powertrain. The NEDC fuel consumption with depleted battery is only 3.79L/100km.
In terms of appearance, the new Song Pro DM-i retains BYD's signature "Dragon Face" design. However, the front has been updated with a new design, featuring slender headlights paired with chrome strips and a trapezoidal honeycomb grille. From certain angles, the second-generation Song Pro DM-i bears some resemblance to its bigger brother, the BYD Tang DM-i, offering a more aggressive look compared to the current model.
On the side, the car features a sleek body line running across the length of the vehicle, which enhances the body details and emphasizes the strength of the front and rear wheel arches. The door frame trims have been blacked out, and the new five-spoke dual wheels add a sportier touch to the vehicle.
The rear design of the new model adopts a more minimalist approach, which contrasts with the bold front. It comes with a roof spoiler, a full-width taillight, and a silver trim on the rear bumper to add a premium feel. The new model replaces the original "Build Your Dream" emblem with the BYD letter logo, giving it a more refined look.
In terms of size, the new model measures 4735mm in length, 1860mm in width, and 1710mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2712mm. Compared to the current model, the length has been reduced by 2mm, while the other dimensions remain unchanged. The car is available in four exterior colors: Snow White, Far Mountain Green, Time Gray, and Black Obsidian.
Inside, the interior of the new model has undergone noticeable changes. The digital dashboard has shifted from a floating design to an embedded one, and the central control screen remains rotatable. The steering wheel now adopts a four-spoke design. Additionally, the front saddle is no longer connected to the dashboard, and a wireless phone charging pad with a designated phone area has been added, along with a new electronic gear shifter, giving the interior a more modern and stylish look.
In terms of performance, the new model is equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a maximum output of 74kW and an electric motor with a maximum output of 120kW. It offers two pure electric ranges, 75km and 115km, and is paired with the Fudi LFP Blade Battery. The NEDC fuel consumption with a depleted battery is 3.79L per 100km, and the combined range with a full tank and full charge reaches 1400km. The suspension system consists of a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension.
Editor's Note: The all-new second-generation Song Pro DM-i has significantly improved in terms of product strength. Whether it’s the upgraded fifth-generation DM system or the new design and features, it better meets users’ needs, with virtually nothing to criticize. As BYD's most affordable plug-in hybrid SUV, it offers diverse options for customers seeking a vehicle in the 100.000 RMB range, even when compared to competitors like the Geely Galaxy L7. The new model also shows better fuel efficiency. As for how it will perform in the market, I believe we’ll get an answer soon. What level do you think it will reach?
