Recently, we learned from dealership channels that the all-new BYD Song L has arrived in large quantities at showrooms, ready for its imminent launch. The available colors are mainly white and Polar Blue. According to store staff, the Song L will be available for delivery immediately upon launch. Despite the somewhat controversial pre-sale price range of 220.000 to 280.000 RMB, over 150 orders have already been placed, with the majority favoring the long-range version. As the first new model of BYD’s Dynasty Network in 2023. the Song L stands out in both looks and performance, thanks to its shooting brake SUV design and the e3.0 platform. Let’s take a sneak peek at this exciting new vehicle.
Exterior Design
While the production model is more restrained compared to the concept car, the sharp lower bumper and the large air intakes on both sides still exude a strong sporty vibe. The low stance and the tension-filled headlights add a unique athletic flair. As an all-electric platform model, the new Song L is equipped with a sizable front trunk, creating a stark contrast with other gas-to-electric converted vehicles.
Side Profile
The side profile of the new Song L features a roofline similar to a coupe, but without the steep slope seen in models like the Xpeng G6. striking a perfect balance between sportiness and space. The low stance complements the wide rear fenders, fully showcasing the elegant temperament expected of a shooting brake SUV. Externally, the new model features frameless doors with double-layer laminated glass, offering excellent NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) performance. The hidden door handles not only reduce wind resistance but also enhance the high-tech ambiance. Additionally, the car comes equipped with low-drag tires of moderate width and color-contrasting brake calipers, further emphasizing its sporty character.
Rear Design
The rear of the new Song L features a high-profile design with a distinctive through-type Chinese knot tail light, which is highly recognizable and ceremonial when illuminated. The sloped rear window is equipped with two types of spoilers: an upper dual-piece fixed spoiler with integrated high-mounted brake lights in a navigation style, and a large retractable electric spoiler on the trunk lid. It is reported that this spoiler can automatically deploy at a certain speed, providing at least 50 kilograms of downforce. The sporty atmosphere is further enhanced by a large diffuser at the bottom of the bumper and C-shaped aerodynamic kits on both sides.
Interior Design
The interior of the new Song L differs from other models in the Dynasty Network. The dashboard has a staggered, layered design with solid craftsmanship and premium materials, creating an immediate sense of luxury when the door is opened. Notably, the traditional inner pull-style door handle has been replaced with an electronic button featuring an LCD display. Additionally, the new model is equipped with a brand-new crystal electronic gear lever, the family’s signature rotating PAD, and a fully digital instrument cluster, exuding a strong sense of technology.
Powertrain
According to previous information from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Song L will be available in both single-motor and dual-motor versions. The all-wheel-drive version is equipped with front and rear motors with maximum outputs of 150 kW and 230 kW, respectively. The single-motor version has a maximum power output of 230 kW. Information from the purchase tax exemption catalog indicates that the CLTC pure electric range is 550 km, 602 km, and 662 km. The new Song L is equipped with the Yun-Nian C system, which offers millisecond-level damping adjustment speed, perfectly combining comfort and handling. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version also boasts the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.
