Driving Experience Showdown: Can NIO NOP Compete with Xpeng XNGP?

Recently, we had the chance to experience Xpeng’s XNGP feature. Today, we are set to try out NIO’s NOP+ function to see which one performs better.

One-Sentence Review of NIO NOP+:

Although the coverage rate of NIO NOP+ is not very high at the moment, its overall performance is still commendable.

Driving Experience Showdown: Can NIO NOP Compete with Xpeng XNGP?

Advantages:

1. In the areas covered by NOP+, the overall performance is quite good.

2. The battery swap experience is satisfying every time.

3. Power release is linear, without any abrupt feeling.

4. The driving quality is excellent, providing a sense of premium experience.

Disadvantages:

1. The NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) performance of the NIO ES6 is rather average.

We chose the same route as we did with Xpeng XNGP, from Olympic Forest Park to Meihua Venture Building. During this journey, we mainly focused on how it handles queueing situations at entrances and exits compared to Xpeng’s XNGP, as well as the number of takeovers required.

After choosing the same route, the coverage rate of NIO NOP+ was noticeably lower than that of XNGP. However, within the areas covered by NOP+, apart from occasional sudden braking, the rest of the performance was satisfactory. Compared to XNGP, NOP+ has a more conservative lane-changing logic, especially when encountering ramps. It would move to the far-right lane about 2 kilometers in advance to queue up, ensuring smooth ramp maneuvers. Ultimately, we achieved zero takeovers within the NOP+ covered area, which was reassuring.

As for challenges at the Zhongguancun loop bridge, Sanlitun, and Xiangquan roundabout, NIO unsurprisingly did not cover these areas with NOP+, resulting in failure before the challenge even began.

After a day of experiencing NOP+, we found that its coverage is primarily focused on Beijing’s ring roads, with almost no coverage once entering side roads. Frankly, for 2024. this coverage rate still needs improvement.

Conclusion

Personally, I believe that at this stage, in a comparison between NIO NOP+ and Xpeng XNGP, Xpeng’s XNGP still holds a bit of an advantage.
