Is the Xiaomi SU7 Worth Buying as a Pure Electric Mid-Size Sedan?

When considering the purchase of a pure electric mid-size sedan, many people often look at domestic brands. With the launch of the Xiaomi SU7 on March 28th, I was able to experience the vehicle firsthand at our local Xiaomi Auto Delivery Center. I would like to share my experience with you in hopes that it will assist you in your car-buying decision.

Exterior:

The front of the Xiaomi SU7 features a sharp line that spans the full LED headlight assembly on both sides. The Xiaomi logo sits on the hood, and a large black V-shaped grille is used below, giving the front a distinctive look.

The side profile of the car showcases a sleek fastback design, with a sharp line running through the door handles. The lower section features extensive black cladding that integrates with the 245/45 R19 tires, giving the car a very elongated appearance.

At the rear, there's a large spoiler that can raise and lower with speed, a continuous light bar across the tail paired with the Xiaomi lettering, and a substantial black cladding at the bottom, adding layers to the overall rear design.

Interior:

The top of the Xiaomi SU7's dashboard is covered in extensive black leather with red stitching. Below, there is a 7.1-inch full LCD instrument panel that can rotate, paired with a leather-wrapped flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel, and a 16.1-inch central control screen, maintaining a minimalist style throughout the interior.

Space:

The Xiaomi SU7 uses Nappa leather sport seats that provide good overall support. After adjusting the front seats to my preferred driving position (I am 173 cm tall and weigh 54.7 kg), the front headroom is one fist and two fingers. Keeping the front seat unchanged, the rear legroom is two fists, and the rear headroom is three fingers. The trunk is quite regular in shape, and the rear seats can fold down in a 40:60 ratio, significantly enhancing the trunk's expandability.

Test Drive Experience:

The Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with two powertrains, 299 horsepower and 673 horsepower. Initial acceleration is brisk, and it performs well even when accelerating on fast roads. The four-wheel drive version, in particular, boasts an official 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.78 seconds, offering a significant power advantage. The chassis uses a front double-wishbone independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension, tuned for sportiness. It provides good support when cornering quickly. However, tire noise is relatively noticeable in terms of noise insulation. The car comes in three ranges: 700 km, 830 km, and 800 km. The top-tier version I tested had a pure electric range of 652 km in mixed city traffic and fast road conditions in Taiyuan.

Purchase Recommendations:

The Xiaomi SU7 currently comes in three configurations. First is the 2024 Rear-Wheel Drive Standard Long-Range Intelligent Driving Edition, priced at 215.900 yuan. Although it is the lowest configuration in the lineup, it is not low on features, such as front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree panoramic camera, and L2-level driver assistance, which are standard across all models. I recommend this version for purchase. Next is the 2024 Rear-Wheel Drive Ultra-Long Range High-End Intelligent Driving Pro Edition, priced 30.000 yuan higher. It offers an additional 130 km of range and includes two laser radars and one millimeter-wave radar, suitable for users with limited charging options. Finally, for an additional 50.000 yuan, you can get the 2024 Four-Wheel Drive Ultra-Long Range High-End Intelligent Driving Max Edition. This version has a larger battery capacity, an electric four-wheel drive system, air suspension, and electric suction doors, making it ideal for performance enthusiasts.

Conclusion:

To summarize, the Xiaomi SU7 stands out with its distinctive exterior, smooth in-car system experience, rich features, and good chassis support, with commendable power performance and long range. However, I am somewhat dissatisfied with the overall comfort of the chassis and the noticeable tire noise.
