The NIO ES6 doesn't seem to have many reports of braking noise, and overall, its performance should be quite good. However, we can't rule out some individual issues that might arise during use. Let's analyze the different causes of braking noise and the solutions for each case.
The most common noise is usually a squealing sound from the brakes, which is a sharp noise that can easily be heard from inside the car. There are mainly two reasons for this situation:
1. Brake Pad Wear:
- When the brake pads wear down to near their limit, a metal piece on the brake pad will rub against the brake disc, creating a warning sound. In this case, replacing the brake pads will solve the problem. There are many channels for brake pads; the original factory set is likely the Brembo F50 series. The front pads cost about 500 yuan per pair, and you can get a full set for both the front and rear wheels changed at a repair shop for around 1000 yuan.
2. Metal Content in Brake Pads:
- Intermittent noise caused by the metal components in the brake pads rubbing against the brake disc, usually when lightly pressing the brake. This is due to the material chosen for the brake pads, and it is a characteristic rather than a fault. If it bothers you, you can alleviate it by grinding the brake pads, but this won't solve the underlying problem. To completely eliminate the noise, you would need to replace the brake pads with ones made from different materials, although I personally think this is unnecessary.
Another common noise is a more subdued friction sound. This is often due to the brake pads not returning to their position properly and rubbing against the brake disc. The main reasons for this are caliper piston sticking or poor lubrication of the caliper guide pins. Typically, cleaning and lubricating these components at a service station can solve the issue.
Additionally, there might be an impact sound when pressing and releasing the brake pedal. This noise is mainly due to the brake pads moving within the caliper. This can be reduced by adding sound-dampening pads and applying grease to lower the probability of noise occurrence.
